Late-night pączki adventures

I hope everyone had an excellent Fat Tuesday yesterday!  Sean and I celebrated the occasion by making our own pączki.  Can you believe that I had never had one before this year?  (Or if I have, it was when I was too young to remember.)  What a shame!

This past weekend, to prepare myself for making my own, we bought a box of them at the grocery store so I could give ’em a try.  It was a bit of a splurge for our wallets, but definitely worth it!

I only have a few photos from this adventure, and unfortunately none of a finished pączek because they all disappeared before I remembered to take one.  Typical Emily.  I used a recipe from The King Arthur Flour Bakers Companion.

From this experience, I must say— eating a homemade pączek first thing Tuesday morning was an excellent way to prepare for this year’s Lenten season.

    Wow! Wish I had been there with you! I missed getting a paczki this year! I don’t really like the grocery store ones, just the bakery ones – there’s a big difference! Yours look like the good bakery ones!
